Eight Immortals
Cao Guojiu was the brother of a Song dynasty empress — royal, powerful, untouchable. His younger brother abused that privilege terribly, causing harm that Cao could not stop or undo. Shamed by guilt, Cao gave away everything: his rank, his wealth, his family name. He wandered into the wilderness alone, trying to understand how a person begins again after something like that. He met Zhongli and Dongbin, who asked: "Where do you come from?" He pointed at his own heart. That answer made him an immortal.
Cao Guojiu is associated with self-reflection, redemption, and the courage to leave behind status and comfort when one's conscience demands it. He represents the freedom that comes from choosing honesty over privilege.
It is never too late to choose differently. The person you want to be begins with a single honest decision.
