辞旧迎新 — "bid farewell to the old, welcome the new" — is the defining phrase of Chinese New Year. The old year is formally bidden farewell. The new year is actively welcomed. The transition is not passive. It is a choice, an intention, a turning toward what comes next with open hands.

The turning of the year is a choice, not just an event. You choose to welcome what comes next.

Bid farewell to what is ending. Mean it. Then turn and welcome what comes next.
