Chinese zodiac match score
Chinese zodiac compatibility is rooted in classical texts like the Tong Shu (通书) and the principles of Wu Xing (Five Elements). Each of the 12 zodiac animals belongs to a specific element (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) and a yin/yang polarity. The interaction between these forces determines how harmoniously two people's energies blend.
There are four key compatibility frameworks: San He (三合) — the three-sign triangle of greatest harmony; Liu He (六合) — the six pairs of mutual attraction; Liu Chong (六冲) — the six clash pairs; and Xiang Hai (相害) — the six harm pairs.
| Type | Pairs | Compatibility |
|---|---|---|
| San He 三合 | Rat+Dragon+Monkey · Ox+Snake+Rooster · Tiger+Horse+Dog · Rabbit+Goat+Pig | Best ★★★★★ |
| Liu He 六合 | Rat+Ox · Tiger+Pig · Rabbit+Dog · Dragon+Rooster · Snake+Monkey · Horse+Goat | Excellent ★★★★ |
| Liu Chong 六冲 | Rat+Horse · Ox+Goat · Tiger+Monkey · Rabbit+Rooster · Dragon+Dog · Snake+Pig | Challenging ★★ |
A clash (六冲) doesn't mean a relationship is doomed — many successful couples share clashing signs and learn to balance each other's energy. It does mean the relationship may require more deliberate effort in communication and compromise.
90–100 — Perfect Match: Your signs form a classical San He or Liu He pairing. Ancient astrologers considered this the highest form of zodiac harmony — shared values, natural ease in communication, and a tendency to lift each other up.
70–89 — Great Match: Strong natural affinity. You may not follow a classical harmony rule, but your elemental energies complement each other well. Most happy long-term couples fall in this range.
55–69 — Neutral: No special harmony or clash. The relationship is shaped more by personality than zodiac energy. With effort and good communication, this can be just as fulfilling as a higher-scoring pair.
40–54 — Needs Work: Your signs carry some tension from the Xiang Hai (相害) framework. This often shows up as different communication styles or values. Awareness helps.
Below 40 — Clash Pair: A Liu Chong (六冲) pairing. Energy pulls in opposite directions. Famous clash couples do exist and can be highly passionate — but they tend to need more emotional processing and mutual respect than average.
